Preregistration and Registered Reports
Why preregistration?
Preregistration, or the practice of documenting research aspects such as hypothesis, sample size, design, data exclusion, and statistical analyses, before data collection or data analysis, aims to increase transparency and can help reduce questionable research practices. When integrated into the publishing process in the form of Registered Reports, it can also reduce publication bias. The aim of the SwissRN working group on Preregistration and Registered Reports is to promote and support existing initiatives and services related to Preregistration and Registered Reports (e.g., through workshops and consulting services), as well as develop new initiatives with stakeholders.
Who we are and how we work
We are a diverse group of researchers from various career stages, disciplines, and backgrounds, with different levels of experience in preregistration. Some of us conduct meta-scientific research on preregistration, while others bring practical insights from applying it in their own work. Alongside academic researchers, our group also includes key stakeholders such as FORS (Swiss Centre of Expertise in the Social Sciences). Several members have developed publicly available training resources on these topics, including workshops and practical guides (e.g., https://forscenter.ch/fors-guides/fg-2020-00009/ and https://osf.io/g45nt/) .
